Bastiaan Redert is a Senior Researcher at the University of Antwerp on the topic of LGBTQ+ advocacy and interest groups. He is particularly interested in how these interest groups strategize in varying hostile political contexts, and examines to what extent LGBTQ+ interest groups can influence national and European policymaking. This research project has received funding of the Flemish Reseach Fund, the Walloon Research Fund and the Research Council of the University of Antwerp.

In addition to his role as Senior Researcher, Bastiaan is a Guest Professor at UHasselt since October 2024. In this capacity, he teaches European Politics and International Relations. He is also Guest Professor at the Antwerp Management School, teaching Research Design in the Executive Master Public Management and Leadership program. Simultaneously, Bastiaan provides regular lectures on European politics and policymaking, interest representation, and LGBTQ+ politics at various institutions.

Bastiaan finished his PhD studies at the University of Antwerp in May 2021. His PhD was a part of the Marie Curie Sklodowska Innovative Training Network (ITN) named the ‘The Post-Crisis Legitimacy of the European Union (PLATO) Project.’

After successfully completing his PhD, Bastiaan worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp from May 2021. Here, he played a key role in the TiGRE (Trust in Governance and Regulation in Europe) project. This Horizon Europe project aimed to study citizens’ trust in public authorities and regulatory regimes across eight European countries. Bastiaan coordinated coders, conducted surveys and in-depth interviews, and contributed to the collection and publication of scientific results.
